Inflation
on the movie tickets in USA
Inflation
in the movie tickets during the last decades, the price of movie tickets has
increased in a notable way and the audience is not very happy with that. In
many tests the audiences mark the cost as the principal thing that they dislike
most of going to the movies. In a 2006 Gallup poll, 41% of those who had seen
at least one movie in the past year said going to the movies is too expensive.
“The MPAA [via Box Office Mojo] recorded the average movie ticket price most
years from 1910-2013. There is consistent data for every year starting in 1961,
so this analysis begins in 1961. The graph below plots the increase in movie
ticket prices from 1961-2013. The green line shows the actual average ticket
price. The blue line adjusts the actual average price for inflation to 2013
dollars using the CPI. The red line sets the $8.16 baseline of the average
ticket price today for easy comparison.” Graphic of the cost of movies in the

The movie
tickets in Colombia:

Colombia has a very particular way of management of the
movie tickets. In Colombia there are different exhibiting companies, such as
Cinemark, Cinecolombia, Procinar, etc. These companies are located in different
parts of the countries. In Bogota there are many exhibiting companies located
around the city. The management system of the movie ticket is not the same for
all the locations. The price change with the stratum of the location, for
example in Cafám Floresta the price of the ticket is about 10,000 pesos, on the
weekends. On the other hand, on San Rafael the price of the ticket is about the
13,000 pesos. Another factor that alter the prices is the format of the movie,
if the movie is on a 3D format the value increases about 5,000 or 6,000 pesos.
Here is the
behavior of the prices of the movie tickets in the different exhibiting
companies:
Basically
the behavior of most of the companies is almost the same. Cine Colombia is the
one who reach the highest prices, almost the 9,000 pesos, followed by Cinemark.
Conversely, Procinal has de lowest prices during the 2011. The remaining
companies use prices between the 8,500 and 6,000 pesos. One fact that affects
the behavior of the ticket price is the demeanor of the dollar. If the dollar
increases, the movie tickets also increase, and if the dollar decrease the
price of movie ticket will decrease.
Colombia is
one of the few countries that have companies that change the ticket price
depending on the day of the week. Cine Colombia and Cinemark are companies that
use this strategy to get the attention of more public and to increases their
sales.
